Know Your VA Claim

Own Your Outcome

Supporting veterans through every step of the VA claims journey
Dear Veterans,

Your story matters — and you deserve to understand every part of how it’s evaluated.

Every record, every symptom, every experience is part of your lived history.  Teaching you how to understand that history is a way of honoring it.  It’s a way of ensuring you are seen, heard, and understood throughout the claims process.

I know the pain, the struggle, and the fight that come with navigating the VA disability claims process. I’ve lived that confusion myself, and I want you to know you don’t have to face it alone.

Most veterans aren’t failing the system — the system failed to teach them how it works.

Let’s get started.

Sincerely,

Fredia Stubbs
U.S. Army Veteran

EMPOWER OUR VETERANS

I’m Fredia,  an Army Veteran, Public Health Medical Professional, and VA Claims Process Education Specialist. My mission is simple: to teach veterans what no one ever taught me.

I enlisted in 1987. When I was out‑processing, no one told me I could file a disability claim. No one explained that I could service‑connect the injuries, illnesses, or trauma I sustained while serving. I walked away from the military believing what so many of us were conditioned to believe: pain is weakness, and seeking help or treatment was something we should avoid for many reasons.

For years, I lived with chronic physical pain and the mental weight of Military Sexual Trauma — but I didn’t see myself as disabled. I didn’t believe I deserved support. I didn’t know I had deserved it.

It wasn’t until nearly a decade later that another veteran told me, “You can file for disability. You deserve treatment and compensation.” Even then, I pushed through the pain, convinced that disability benefits were only for veterans with visible injuries or severe conditions.

Another two decades passed. My physical and mental health worsened. I finally reached a point where I couldn’t keep “sucking it up” anymore. I decided to seek help — almost 30 years after leaving the military.

That’s when I discovered how overwhelming the VA claims process truly is.

The VA website didn’t explain the steps clearly. I didn’t understand evidence gathering, how to write an effective statement, or what to expect at a C&P exam. I reached out to a Veterans Service Organization for help, but the experience left me feeling dismissed, confused, and defeated.

I ended up relying on information from other veterans — friends who were just as frustrated and unsure as I was.

I filed my first claim and was denied.
Like most veterans, I thought “denied” meant “not granted.”
I didn’t understand the difference.
I didn’t understand anything — and I had no one to guide me.

I was ready to give up.

But something in me refused to quit. I decided to study the process myself — every rule, every form, every requirement, every nuance. I learned the ins, outs, ups, and downs of how the VA evaluates claims. I filed again, this time with understanding and confidence.

And I was finally granted service-connection for my injuries, illnesses, and the trauma I sustained while on active duty.

That moment changed everything!

I realized how many veterans were suffering in silence — confused, overwhelmed, discouraged, and unsupported. Veterans like me. Veterans who deserved better.

So I kept studying. I kept learning. I kept refining. And I began helping family members, close friends, and other veterans understand the process. They started getting rated. They started getting care. They started getting compensated.

And I realized: This is my purpose.

Today, I use my background in public health, medical science, education, and my lived experience as a disabled veteran to teach others what I wish someone had taught me decades ago.

I don’t file claims for veterans.
I don’t act as a representative.
I educate and guide — clearly, patiently, and compassionately every step of the way.

I create a safe learning environment where veterans can finally understand:

  • how the VA evaluates new and worsened service‑connected conditions
  • how to interpret their evidence
  • how to write effective statements
  • how to prepare for a C&P exam
  • how to advocate for themselves with confidence

My mission is to help as many veterans as possible learn the process, understand their rights, and receive the compensation and care they deserve.

Because no veteran should wait 30 years to be told the truth: You are not weak. You are not alone. And you deserve help.

What Veterans Are Saying ...

“I served over 15 years and lived with worsening chronic service‑connected conditions. Every time I thought about going through the VA claims process again, the anxiety was overwhelming. Working with Fredia changed everything. She understood my pain because she’s lived it too. Her patience, clarity, and genuine care made me feel safe enough to finally file again.  I was able to clearly explain how my conditions had worsened during my C&P exam, and my rating was increased.”

Sgt. Burnett, US Army Veteran

“As a veteran who experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST), I always knew I needed help, but I never felt comfortable talking about my trauma. A friend introduced me to Fredia, and she immediately created a space where I felt protected, understood, and never rushed. She explained everything gently and clearly, drawing from her own experience as a disabled veteran who has walked this path. With her support, I finally received the medical help and compensation I had been too afraid to pursue for years.”

Thankful, US Army Veteran

“I’m a veteran who filed my own claim!  I’ve lived with chronic pain for decades since my time in service, and I never felt confident navigating the VA process. Fredia taught me everything in a way that finally clicked. She made me feel capable, supported, and in control of my own claim. For the first time, I understood exactly what was happening at every step of the way, and I received the disability rating I knew I deserved. I’m so grateful. Thank you, Fredia!”

SPC Waricks, US Army Veteran

“I am a retired  Army veteran who was stuck at 70% for years .  My chronic conditions kept getting worse and even caused new ones, but I was terrified to apply for an increase.  I didn’t want to deal with the stress and frustration of the VA process again.  This program changed everything. Fredia explained the entire process in a way that finally made sense.  Knowing she’s a disabled veteran who’s been through this herself gave me the confidence I needed. I filed my own claim and I’m now rated at 100%.  I’m excited, relieved, and incredibly grateful. It was worth every penny!”

CW3 Stubbs, US Army Veteran

“I never went to sick call and thought that meant I had no chance.  As a veteran with no military medical evidence, I felt embarrassed and defeated.  Fredia never made me feel that way.  She showed me how evidence works, helped me understand what the VA actually evaluates, and gave me the confidence to advocate for myself.”

SPC Banks, US Army Veteran

“I’m a veteran with an other‑than‑honorable discharge who suffers from PTSD.  I spent decades believing I wasn’t allowed to file.  Fredia changed that in one conversation. She treated me with dignity, explained the rules clearly, and helped me see that my service still mattered. For the first time, I felt hopeful enough to move forward.”
